Our Company

Beagle is a Web agency based in Kyiv, Ukraine. We provide such services as website development, design, programming, software development, translations, content writing, etc.

In addition to developing websites to order, Beagle runs two projects of its own. They are the free multilingual genealogy portal Rodovid and the Web Encyclopedia of Kyiv (WEK). Rodovid was launched in 2005 and the WEK has been on the Web since 1998.

Our History

Beagle started in Ukraine in 2006. Originally, it was conceived as as a marketing agency to provide consulting services to international businesses. Soon after the operations started the company extended its services to web development. In 2007, it was decided to focus on the development of websites as it became the primary area of business activity for the company.

HMS Beagle

The company's name Beagle has got an interesting history. The original name comes from the name of a British scent hound used primarily for tracking hare, rabbit, and other game. Beagle-type dogs have existed for over five centuries, but the breed as popularly known was developed in the United Kingdom about 150 years ago.

Another bearer of the name Beagle was HMS Beagle, a Cherokee class survey brig of the British Royal Navy, on which Charles Darwin made his voyage around the globe from 1831 to 1836. In that voyage, which turned into a ground breaking scientific expedition, HMS Beagle was under the command of Captain Robert FitzRoy, the future governor general of New Zealand. Darwin spent most of his travel exploring on land; three years and three months on land, 18 months at sea. His work made his reputation as a geologist and collector of fossils, and his detailed observations of plants and animals provided the basis for ideas which he later developed into his theory of evolution by natural selection.
